News fron FGS
From Linda McCleary, our FGS representative:
Please check out the newly revised Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) website at http://www.fgs.org/rpa/ Various buttons take you to the interior of the website: Who We Are & How We Serve You; Formal Actions, Opinions & Activities; State-by State Reporting (Arizona is listed!!!); State Liaisons; International Issues; Strategy for Records Preservation; Strategy for Access; National Reporting; Panic Button; and Current Issues. Right now, we are tracking the dismantling of the Florida State Library and dispersion of its circulating collection and personnel; the defeat of Virginia Senate Bill 818 which would allow for destruction of will files; alert to 8 bills pending in the Texas Legislature regarding military discharge records; and confidential information on Texas marriage license applications. I am the state liaison to FGS and NGS Records Preservation & Access Committee. If you know of any records destruction or access problems, please alert me or go to the website to report any findings.ö
From Betsy: If we want to continue to have access to the records that will help us find our families and ancestors, we better become politically aware of what is happening. If we donÆt speak up, no one will. And we will lose our sources.
